Color theory

1.       Hue is what distinguishes one color from another.
2.       Value is the relative lightness or darkness of a color.
3.       Saturation is roughly equivalent to brightness.
4.       There are 12 available colors on a computer.
5.       Two primary colors mixed together makes Secondary colors.
6.       Tertiary colors are a primary plus a neighboring secondary.
7.       Complementary colors are two colors which sit opposite each other on the color wheel.
8.       The primary colors in Photo shop are red green blue.
9.       The secondary colors in Photoshop are cyan magenta yellow.
10.   Subtractive color model is when you mix colors together to get black.
11.   Additive color model is when you mix colors together and get a pure white light.
12.   RGB is additive.
13.   CMYK is subtractive.
14.   The RGB color model is used for computer monitors.
15.   CMYK is used for printing presses.
16.   Analogous colors are those which sit next to each other on the color wheel.
17.   Tint is a color in which white has been added to a pure color.
18.   Shade is a color in which black has been added to a pure color.
19.   Neutral is the combo. Of complementary colors.
20.   Warm colors tend to jump forward into prominence in a piece of design.
21.   Cool colors tend to recede in a design.
22.   The color blue is associated with stability.
23.   The color purple is associated with royalty.
24.   The color white is associated with cleanliness.
25.   The color green is associated with freshness.
26.   Yellow and orange are associated with joy.
27.   Red is associated with passion and danger.
28.   Dark red is associated with vigor, willpower, rage, anger, leadership, courage, longing, malice, and wrath.
29.   Reddish-brown is associated with harvest and fall.
30.   Dark orange is associated with deceit and distrust.
31.   Gold is associated with illumination, wisdom, and wealth.
32.   Yellow is associated with joy, happiness, intellect, and energy.
33.   Dark green is associated with ambition, greed, and jealousy.
34.   Olive green is associated with peace.
35.   Light blue is associated with health, healing, tranquility, understanding and softness.
36.   Dark purple is associated with gloom, and sad feelings.

37.   Colors are important in graphic design to give any “advertisements” feeling and meaning. When something is black and white, it can be boring and very aesthetically unpleasing.
